If I strung a series of completely random words together, I might very well wind up with something like the headline of this story. Yes, it sounds like something I made up, but this is real. There is currently an Ebay auction going on for an x-ray of a duck’s belly. And on this x-ray is the miraculous image of an alien.
The image is so perfect, it almost seems to be a forgery. I mean, my Photoshop skills are good, but it would take me hours to get something that looks like this. But the seller says that this is the real thing, not a canard.
In fact, the seller is the International Bird Rescue Research Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving birds injured by human activity, especially oil spills. You’ve seen those news videos of birds after an oil spill? Well, the IBRRC are the people who rescue and clean those birds, then try to get them back into the wild. I would like to come up with some wacky jokes about this, but I won't. I hope they make a ton of money off this auction, because all the proceeds go to support their work. Here’s a news story about the x-ray. And the the auction is here. Update: The auction ended in June, 2006, and the X-Ray sold for $9,600! |
